Kuchar - A Short Film Poster
When I spoke with the team behind Kuchar, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the fact that it was a women-led project immediately caught my interest.
The brief was simple on the surface: to design a poster for the film. But once I saw the almost-finished cut, I realised how layered the story really was.

Kuchar is about innocence, growing into your body, and the tender bond between a mother and daughter. Listening to the director, Vaidaangi, and producer, Sumedha, talk about the film, I could feel how much heart they had poured into it.
Our challenge was to capture that emotion in a single frame, creating intrigue and wonder without revealing too much.
This needed to feel like an extension of the film itself, carrying forward its colour tones, textures, and light. We wanted the pink hues that thread through the story to shine, but not in a way that felt cliché or overpowering.
The poster had to be playful, layered, and a little mysterious.

After countless sketches and explorations, we found a base framework that felt right. From there, I slowly built it up. Layering colours, details, and small cues that brought out the innocence and lightness of the film.
The final artwork was something that felt familiar yet otherworldly, much like the story itself.

Kuchar went on to win Best Foreign Short Film at the Palm Springs Film Festival, and it felt special knowing that the poster had travelled with it on that journey.
